Founder and Director of Australian Education Academy:
Established in 2003, the Australian Education Academy (AEA) is now one of Melbourne's finest private educational institutes, providing excellence in education via a wide range of courses for both international and local students. With 62 staff members across two conveniently located campuses in Springvale and Kensington, plans to open an offshore campus (in Sri-Lanka in 2012), and approval to accommodate 1340 students from the Australian Government, 2011 is set to be a milestone year in the Academy's history. Currently the academy has 1250 students studying vocational education courses in sixteen different AQF qualifications.
The Australian Education Academy's stated mission is to provide quality vocational education and training through a suite of accredited courses that cater for both the international and domestic markets. The overall aim is to provide education and training for a skilled and adaptable workforce to meet the ever-changing needs of industry.
The man behind it all is CEO Dilshan Fernando, the only Sri-Lankan to operate a Higher Education Institute in Australia, a graduate of Monash University and the University of Melbourne, and holder of a Bachelor of Science and Diploma of Education, Dilshan has over 24-years experience within the education industry. He has held positions as Head of Science, Head of Physics, Head of Mathematics, Union Representative, and Consultative Committee Member, has presented at VCE teacher conferences to train young graduates, and is a member of the Victorian Institute of Teaching, the Science Teachers Association of Victoria, and the Mathematics Association of Victoria. Passionate about community, quality education, and delivery, his aim is to make the AEA one of the premier private educational providers in Victoria, Australia.
Recipient of prestigious awards from the Australian and Sri-Lankan Governments:
Dr. Fernando worked tirelessly and often voluntarily with charitable organisations such as Australia Sri-Lanka Medical Aid Team (AUSLMAT) and South East Asian Community Link, for the benefit of the community. In addition to his countless educational achievements, Dilshan is also a founding (and active) member of the Australia Sri Lanka Medical Aid (AUSLMAT) Charity Organisation and in 2006 was awarded the Overseas Humanitarian Services Medal from the Prime Minister of Australia for the valuable charitable work which he's done for the organisation. AUSLMAT have contributed nearly $5 Million in medical equipment and services to Sri-Lankan hospitals since the 2004 Tsunami. In 2010, Dilshan was awarded the prestigious 'Multicultural Award for Excellence 2010' from the Premier of Victoria and Hume City Council, Victoria, Australia Honours from the Mayor. Victoria's Multicultural Awards for Excellence provides an opportunity to honour those outstanding individuals and organisations whose dedication to their chosen field, and their commitment to cultural diversity, has made a positive impact in their local community. After receiving Victoria's Multicultural Award, Dr. Fernando said; "This award only strengthens my commitment to advance the position of culturally diverse Victorians in areas such as education and employment and contribute towards gaining recognition towards Victoria being the Multicultural Capital of the word". Recently Dilshan was awarded 'Deshamanya Archarriya' (Honary Doctor) from Sri-Lanka (Second highest honour of Sri-Lanka) for the charity work that he has done for Sri-Lanka.
